Sustainability & Design

By Henry Lambert on February 8, 2007

One of the biggest issues on the agenda for the last five years has been sustainability and eco friendliness. Advertising and design have a particularly large part to play when it comes to this. Did you know that ink is one of the most damaging things for the environment?

Ben at Noisy Decent Graphics has taken it upon himself to lead the charge for sustainable design and written a superb post on his blog.

“What I’ve always like about Innocent’s packaging is that they used to say, ‘this bottle is 25% recyclable, we’re working on the rest’ and then it was 50% and now they’ve cracked 100%. I doubt that many companies would be that dedicated. The ‘we’re working on it’ bit is really important.

“One thing that really annoys me is the way society has accepted the built in obsolescence of so many products these days. That’s one thing designers can help reduce. Over to you, Mr Ive.”
