6 Billion Others

By Guy Brighton on March 9, 2007

Launched by Yann Arthus-Bertrand at the beginning of 2003, 6 Billion Others aims to create a “sensitive and human” portrait of the planet’s inhabitants. In the years since, a team of film makers have interviewed 6,000 people, visited 65 countries and produced 450 hours of video with subtitles for everyone to enjoy.

The objective, the site says, is to attempt to reveal each person’s universality and individuality. Six directors travel the world asking the same set of questions : about family, experiences, tests, laughter, tears and the meaning of life.

Only a selection of the footage is available on the site – but what’s there provides a fascinating insight into our humanity.
