This time from France. We’ve noted the rise, ok somewhat slow, of car magzines looking more like fashion mags. Intersection was the first and I still consider the benchmark of this new category.
Car Magazine in the UK re-imaged their publication last year to look sleeker and feature more editorial content. Now, enter Carwash. Their first issue is on newsstands, no where near the other automotive mags in most cases. Dig around the fashion section and you may find an issue. The first thing you’ll notice is the size. It’s slightly small than 7" X 10 1/2". The first issue totals out at about 160 pages. They’ve done some varnish printing on the cover and have a mix of paper stocks inside.
Content wise, Carwash is light on writing and more photo spread based. What writing that is there is printed in both French and English. There are some interesting articles if brief articles in the issue like and interview with Tomas Enge (First ever driver to put an Aston Martin on pole position), a review of the Nissan Cube, and a look at the US Scion fan club.
The photography isn’t as glamorous as Car, more artful.
Carwash tops Car on price. The current winter issue costs $20. Pricey but you’ll not find any of those annoying subscription cards wedged in anywhere.
