When we went to Buenos Aires we hung out with Hernando Gomez Salinas. One of the interesting trends he told us about was the musical mash up of Electronic Cumbia – a mix of Argentinean folk with modern electronic.

This trendis growing up because electronic cumbia in Buenos Airesstay in cool circles and installed a new kind of culture consumerism.

Electro-cumbia 2006 goes beyond BA and across the continent back to Selena´s turf and back down again, stopping off strongest in Mexico, Colombia and Argentina, and hitting big in the USA too. Its a new breed, its hip, avantgarde, underground and has a merry crew of nuts, hipsters and amazing musicians and producers taking the reigns. Cumbia Lunatica, Cumbia Experimental, Cumbiatronica, Carribean beats with Porteño and DF sofistication, experimental psychodelia, and modern technology.
Aguante.

trends sometimes are fabricated and vaselined by the wrong chantas… as far as i know the wildest first steps with cumbia in Argentina were realised some 4 years ago already by a certain Dick El Demasiado, an anarchist musician which is also popular in for instance mexico (nuevosricos) and was in sonar en colombia… he has 4 cd’s out. don’t believe handycams, don’t believe myspace
