Jonny Greenwood Is The Controller
One of the albums we were playing during the breaks at the PSFK Conference was the new album ‘Jonny Greenwood is Controller’ brought to us by PSFK contributor Hedyeh Parsia. The Radiohead guitarist was invited to search the vaults of the Trojan Records reggae catalog and find his favorites. The PR says about the album:
As a fervent fan of reggae music Jonny Greenwood worked with Trojan Records to compile his favorite recordings from the extensive legendary catalog. After 6 months of endless listening Jonny narrowed down his choices to 17 crucial tracks of essential reggae listening. Not a best of but a deep digging in the crates collection of rich Jamaican sounds and styles covering soul, roots and dub. The set features renowned vocalists, musicians and producers including Desmond Dekker, Lee Perry, Gregory Isaacs, Sly & Robbie, King Tubby, Scientist and many others. The set is the latest in Trojan’s artist choice jukebox series following DJ Spooky, Don Letts and others.
Wonderful. And we’re biased. But Pitchfork did give the album the album a glowing review with a rating of 8.4.
