A new shopping website, Racked.com, made its official debut
yesterday and Fashion PSFK has gotten no work done since.
In its own words: “Racked is a blog about shopping, neighborhood
stores and the retail scene of
about it.” In our own words: retail porn.
So far the
blog has been tracking such hot items as Madonna’s line at H&M (a bust–literally), the
new Whole Foods on Bowery (lots of “Shelf Porn") and the new Diane von
Furstenberg flagship (unwrapping sono). They already have some recurring features such as “Clickage”
(links to local and national items) “Storecasting” (store openings of note)
“Hot Racks” (good sales with all the details) and “Email Scan” (worthy items
from those inbox-clogging newsletters).
Racked.com comes to us from the makers of Curbed,
namely publisher Lockhart Steele, managing editor of Gawker Media. Its editor, Leslie Price, came from Time Out New York where she was an editor for their
"Eat Out" section and contributed to their shopping and culture coverage.
Steele has been
running Curbed, a real estate blog, since May 2004 and Racked is now his sixth site. This makes us wonder, Could Steele be the next Nick Denton Elizabeth
Spiers? He seems to be giving her a run for her VC money; Spiers just added Fashionista to her Dead Horse Media family of blogs in January. But while Spiers’ sites are all about gossip and insider baseball, Steele’s take more
of a service angle. It’s like the difference between Vogue and Lucky.
Next up, a real San Francisco treat: a Bay Area version of his food blog, Eater.
