&lt;p&gt;The only semi-legitimate reason I can think of as to why they didn&#039;t launch with faster data is that AT&amp;T - it&#039;s AT&amp;T again not Cingular dammit :) - thought their network wouldn&#039;t be able to handle the data traffic increase.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Then again, knowing Apple, they&#039;ll come out with must-have new iPhone models every 3 months. It should be interesting to see how that aspect of the the &quot;media device as fashion accessory&quot; concept pioneered through iPod translates to the mobile space.&lt;/p&gt;
