One of the theories floating around is that people are far more likely to pay for live experiences than archived content. For example, you don’t mind paying for your mobile phone call but you don’t like paying for voicemail, or you don’t mind paying for a ticket to a band’s gig but you won’t buy music, or you’d pay to watch your team’s game live on cable but you won’t pay for replays.
A new service plays on this idea of broadcasting live content that viewers pay for. Jalipo is an online distribution network for high-quality TV and video content which is signing deals with folk like the BBC to show live sports, concerts and more independent films.
Consumers buy credits and spending them watching live events and/or video-on-demand online. Vecosys says:
The key differentiator with Jalipo’s online service is that it will allow rights owners more control over their footage by letting them set their own pay-per-minute price whilst at the same time determining where or when it is available, in order to avoid jeopardising any other distribution deals.

Jalipo has been a lifesaver! I have managed to watch the Scotland games live through their system after I was posted abroad. Definitely will recommend Jalipo to anyone. Easy to use and credits are ‘roll over’, so although I spent $10 on a voucher, it only deducted for what I watched and I still have credits left for the next live game. It even stopped deducting when I paused it to let the dog out. Can’t say fairer than that.
