Urban Spam Vs Smart Idea Panel At The PSFK Conference NYC
Panel: Urban Spam or Smart Idea?
Where do we draw the line between marketing nuisance and entertaining messaging?
Panel: Rob Schaltenbrand (Chair), Darren Paul, Trip Hunter, Floyd Hayes, Kacy Coll.
About the panelists:
ROBERT SCHALTENBRAND
Robert Schaltenbrand has been in the business of lifestyle marketing for almost his entire career. From creating Product RED partnerships while at Converse, to co-developing pop-up environments for clients at Kirshenbaum Bonds LIME unit, or introducing Entourage to key opinion formers, he wittily enjoys smashing the false teeth out of the "establishment."
A graduate of Rutgers University with degrees in Communications and Business Management, Rob is currently a marketing consultant for emerging and established brands. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
FLOYD HAYES
Floyd Hayes joined Cunning at its inception in 1998 where he was involved in beaming an 80ft tall naked woman on the Houses of Parliament for FHM to launching the MINI Cooper. Floyd moved from London 3 years ago and is now Head Creative Bloke at Cunning New York.
Recently he has been busy developing award-winning work for Target, HSBC, & SCION, speaking at universities and hanging around various dive bars.
KACY COLL
Kacy Coll joined Naked Communications last spring as the New York office’s first full-time strategist. Every day since then, she has helped people think differently about how they solve business problems through effective communications, developing strategic plans for clients like Nokia and Johnson & Johnson.
Prior to joining Naked, Kacy worked at McCann Erickson as a lead planner on several businesses. With Johnson & Johnson, she strengthened the women’s health franchise through integrated brand positioning. As part of an Ad Council partnership, she created a consistent anti-obesity messaging platform that is being implemented by a coalition of partners including Kraft, Coca-Cola, and the Girl Scouts.
Kacy Coll lives with her future husband in the East Village and is in the process of getting a Masters degree in Social Psychology from NYU. Things she likes: the Thursday special sandwich at Olive’s on Prince Street, being right. Things she dislikes: music with horns in it, customer service supervisor Anthony McFarland from Time Warner Cable at extension 3502.
DARREN PAUL
As an entrepreneur from a young age, Darren Paul has never thought of a well-worn path as the only option. His success in the advertising world is evidence of marketers’ response to big ideas and untraditional approach in today’s media landscape. In 2003, at the age of 25, Darren launched Night Agency with partners Evan Vogel (New Business Director) and Scott Cohn (Executive Creative Director) as a guerilla marketing company working with clients including Heineken and Yahoo! Hot Jobs. Three years later, the company is bigger and broader; it boasts a staff of artists, writers, directors, musicians, comedians, programmers and citizens of the online world forging online identities for clients that utilize traditional production techniques, engaging web design and functionality, cutting-edge web philosophy, online PR and guerilla marketing. A turning point for the company was the award-winning re-launch of MTV2 via the2headeddog.com, a video-rich website featuring humor skits. Since then, video content and its in-house production have played a key role in many of the shop’s campaigns. Current clients include MTV, mtvU, Symantec, Noxzema and Maxim, among others. Darren leads consumer marketing strategy as well as measurement and analysis of digital advertising and marketing metrics. The road less traveled never looked so exciting.
TRIP HUNTER
Trip works at Renegade and was asked to be part of the panel the night before. So don’t give him any crap, alright?
