reports:

"Hedi Slimane is back on track. According to MFF (Milano Finanza
Fashion) sources, yesterday French designer signed a preliminary
contract with PPR-Gucci group in order to launch his own brand. Few
weeks after his shocking farewell from LVMH, caused by his very
decision to start his signature label, designer may have found a new
business partner. Pinault’s aim is to create the Hedi Slimane brand,
replicating Stella McCartney brand’s success.

According to some business analysts’ esteems, the brand might generate
around €10 mil revenue during its first year course. An official notice
is expected soon."

Slimane already made some huge waves in the fashion world when he split from Dior over creative control disputes.  The designer has been itching to launch a brand under his own name, expand into women’s wear, and generally grow into the designer he wants to be.  Slimane made a statement to fans outlining his intentions, but no one expected him to find new sponsorship so soon.

PPR-Gucci could be the right fit, as it’s also home to Slimane’s former house, YSL.  If his time at Dior is any indication, Slimane’s not going to have any problems making his name brand blossom into retail gold, he’s already got a huge following of both men and women worldwide.

Thinking speculatively, Slimane’s aesthetic, if he chooses to maintain his signature androg-sexy look, would be a nice rounding out of PPR’s line up.  Since Ford’s departure in 2003, there’s been a significant shortage of edge for luxury men’s wear brand.  YSL, Balenciaga, and Gucci all have their own style, but none can compare when it comes to youth culture references and bleeding edge design.  Best of luck, Hedi.
