Music Matchups: Goombah and Napster, Last.fm and Facebook?

by Allison Mooney

Goombah_1
Our friends at the music recommendation site Goombah tell us they have partnered with Napster, making it easier to hear the songs they
recommend. That has been the main problem with these services—iLike, Qloud,
MyStands, etc. Users are routed to vendor sites (generally iTunes or Amazon) to
hear short preview clips of a song. With Napster tied in, Goombah users can stream
recommendations or song from a users’ library that Napster has. Sounds great, so long as Napster stays in business.

On another note, we finally checked out Goombah’s Free Music list—which can be
downloaded and shared with their new widget—and were pleasantly surprised to see the likes of
Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, Boy Least Likely To, and CocoRosie among others… Finally something free that isn’t crap.

Lastfm2
In other partnership news, rumor has it that last.fm, which streams tracks on customized radio stations, might be partnering with Facebook. The
speculation started from this logo on last.fm’s widget page. Meanwhile, Mashable is
speculating
that Facebook is starting an online music service of their own. Could there be a
connection? Apparently the big announcement comes on Monday…
