PSP Camera & Gaming

psp cameraMobile Mag reports on the launch of a camera peripheral for the Sony PSP handheld gaming device. Go!Cam can record up to 2.5 hours of video. That’s rather a lot to stuff onto a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, but Sony does it. Mobile Mag suggests that you can use it to record your “game face” but we wonder if this sort of device will be used for something far more interesting.

The addition of a camera allows games to take place in the real world, on your PSP and online. The camera could be used to capture barcodes or semacodes printed on billboards etc in what would be a cross-over world gaming environment. Semacodes could hold clues, points, bonuses that help the gameplay. Maybe gamers could even photo objects and introduce them to the game in the same way Virtual Birdwatching does.

Some opportunities here for the PSP, no?
