RFID To Stop Exam Cheats

RFID To Stop Exam Cheats

By Piers Fawkes on May 11, 2007

The BBC reports on the introduction of RFID chips to exam papers to monitor their movement. Edexcel are installing the chips as tags as part of a project to find ways to stop exam questions getting leaked before exams take place. The BBC reports:

The tags will store data such as how many papers are in the bundle, where they came from and where they are going

.

They will not be tracked remotely, but instead will speed up checks carried out by compliance officers. Edexcel says it will be easier to spot if a package has been tampered with.

The second use of new technology involves what is called micro-texting. A distinctive printing technique is used so that a paper which was photocopied could be easily identified.

Certain tiny marks would not be seen on a photocopy and would only be visible under a magnifying glass on a genuine paper.
