Virgin Atlantic Going Green

by Joel Horowitz

02_richard_bransonRichard Branson, owner of the Virgin Group including the successful airline Virgin Atlantic, has taken steps to transform its 37-plane fleet into one of the most eco-friendly carriers on the planet. It was reported a few months ago of Bransons intention to make all of his planes bio-fuel capable in the near future and:

That he would be ploughing all of his profits from his travel companies (he also own Virgin Trains in the UK) into renewable energy, claiming this would amount to $3bn in investment.

But Sir Branson isn’t just taking the easy route by utilizing existing bio-fuel resources and technologies. He’s partnered up with GE and Boeing to research, develop and eventually formulate their own carbon-free jet-bio-fuel. And he’s proving it by running a test flight of a “green” Boeing 747-400 at next years end.
