VW Concept Car

Volkswagen has just unveiled their new concept car, the Golf GTI W12 650, at the Wörthersee car show in Austria.  With a top speed of 201 mph, this futuristic looker is packing 650 horsepower – and looks amazing too!

Autoblog has this to say about some of the car’s finer detailing:

Lower and wider than a stock GTI, the body retains the production car’s
doors, hood and lights, but otherwise it’s all new. A number of intakes
and a redesigned C-pillar help feed air to the 12-cylinder behemoth
supplying the go-power. To keep the car planted to the tarmac, VW
didn’t want to use a massive spoiler to generate downforce. As such,
the car’s carbon-fiber roof acts as a giant diffuser that funnels air
under the small spoiler at its trailing edge. In summary, the whole
thing is a big exercise in the awesome.

  1. That’ll be the phaeton W12 engine

It’s not exactly an advert for their commitment to sustainable motoring though is it? (their CEO was giving speeches recently about how they are going to trailblaze in fuel economy >100mpg etc)

  2. I’m looking forward for full specs and features from volkswagen on this concept. Well at least they gave the initial details on what we would expect for the production model. Are they using gibson exhaust system? I’m hoping for great horsepower and performance.

  3. Nice ride and look at the aerodynamics; the rear VW spoiler is integrated into the roof and the air intake integrated into the C-Pillar, absolutely beautiful and with this MR wide body, it’s perfect!!

  4. Hmmmmm, not actually a whole lot of Golf left in there as far as I can see. You have to build a custom chassis to hold a drivetrain as radically different as that — rather like the midengine Clio that Renault had several years back.

Great concept though, and I imagine they could sell a few hundred. Makes the R32 look downright, errrr, Skoda-esque ….

  5. its supa fantastic for a future millionaire like me would be great start for me to ride a car like that, this sporty look doesnt require me to customise further its perfect, but I wonda how powerful the sound system is
