Those who survived the original rave era extacy high c. 1990 will remember the wonderful and rich period of time in the early-mid 90’s when ambient and ‘intelligent’ techno music took hold. While New Rave may grow to become the next musical thing…there is a building undercurrent of interest in the subtler sounds of techno. Here’s three items to watch:
Reissues: Recently Seefeel have reissued their best album Quique on Bleep.com as a special extended album. The original came out in 1993 and mixed ‘industrial music with
electronics and a dose of My Bloody Valentine-style ‘wall of guitars’
noise.’
Label Revivals: Seminal UK intelligent techno label B12 has sprung back to life, recently releasing a new 12" after a 10 year break. They have also added digital download versions of rare early releases.
The Orb: Little Fluffy Clouds may have been an anthem of the original rave movement, but this summer Alex Patterson is ready to launch another album.
Titled "the dream", the project sees dr alex paterson
back in the studio with former orbster youth, and dreadzone’s tim bran. The album also features contributions from steve hillage, andy kane and
eric walker.
The question here is what label the album will be released on. 2005’s ‘Okie Dokie Its The Orb’ came out of Germany’s Kompakt label. The release fell in line with the labels ’shuffle beat’ sound. With more original members contributing this time might we see a return to early 90’s bliss?

Great point. Many “classic house” singles are being reprinted as well, from the likes of well known Chicago and San Fran based labels. Although the value of my out of print records is dwindling with all the re-issues:-), It’s great to see that a younger era of electronic enthusiest and DJ’s have access to the music’s roots.

the new orb album looks to coming out on Youth’s label Liquid Sound, formerly LSD. It may be a double with an Orb covers album called Orbisms.
