Borough Food & Drink: International Fare at the Local Level

by Alex Morrison

Picture_3_2A new restaurant and market is opening on 12 East 22nd Street in Manhattan––Borough Food & Drink––and it promises to deliver truly global food at a very local level. Chef Zac Pelaccio selects international products from specialty stores around the city and prepares them on site for use by the market, restaurant or takeout. The insistent attitude concerning where his products are coming from and their astounding diversity (their menu includes Schmaltz fried pickles, Bosnian sausage, coriander bacon, wild arugula salad, weisswurst, bratwurst and biscotti, amongst others) should pay off in the long run as long as the menu doesn’t seem too overwhelming. Maybe some of the lesser known foods from the diverse corners of the earth will finally get their time in the spotlight.
