Vera Wang and Kohl’s Meet Their Match

Vera
Bridal and fashion queen, Vera Wang, has been working with the Kohl’s
department store for the past few months to produce a capsule line
under the designer’s name.  Throwing her hat into the trend of high end
for low end, Wang will create a 20 piece collection that mirrors her
runway line.  The pieces for the Kohl’s collection still follow her
Ballerina Punk style but have been simplified for the Kohl’s customer.

The department store was first opened in 1946 as a grocery store in Milwaukee. In 1962, owner Max Kohl started selling clothes in his stores, the same way food was sold.  Although much has changed since then and the store’s layouts have been revamped, and some are wondering if Vera Wang’s presence may be too fashionable.

The New York Times writes:

As Kohl’s tries to recast itself as a department store that offers not only
affordable fashion but a dash of style as well, Kohl’s intends to make
Ms. Wang the public face of its reinvention. For her part, Ms. Wang
says that her relationship with Kohl’s is more than a marriage of
convenience. Like many successful entrepreneurs before her, she has
reached a crossroads: her business has grown so rapidly and in so many
directions that she lacks the resources — especially cash — to keep
expanding it on her own.
