China’s Long Future In Africa

China’s Long Future In Africa

By Piers Fawkes on June 28, 2007

One of the few stories in the 2007 Africa issue of Vanity Fair that made us stop and read was the one about China’s involvement in Africa by Sebastian Junger. China’s work in the continent seems to be a rather complicated affair to say the least – there seems to be as many bad things said about it all as good. One thing that made us think as we were crossing Avenue of Americas at Houston Street was this paragraph where a commentator talks about the future vision of China compared to the US. The article reads:

“The US can’t plan past six months from now. The Chinese think a hundred years in advance.”

Simple. Telling.
