Design Research: Nokia Connection 2007

by Alex Morrison

nokia11.pngNokia have been doing some serious research into the complex and diverse world of mobile phone usage. Their current study, which they presented earlier this month at the Nokia Connection 2007, focuses on South East Asia and the lifestyles of the people there: how they live, where they work, what needs they are addressing with their phones, how illiteracy may be affecting cellular communication…

The statistics that they have produced, which are available both as PDF’s and as PowerPoints, are pretty fascinating and entirely open to the public via Nokia employee Jan Chip Chase’s blog Future Perfect. A few examples to give you a better idea:

Where do people carry phones?

Frequency of missed communications?

People carrying wallets vs. purses?

All of this tied into broader trends concerning the lifestyles of those involved and the direction the technology is heading.

Definitely worth a look.
