Pecha Kucha Manila

Pecha Kucha Night – the freestyle slide showdown event where presenters can explore anything that can fit in 20 slides clocking at 20 seconds per slide (six minutes and 40 seconds total time) – has made its way to Manila. Traditionally, this is a networking affair for some of the creative community’s finest and based on the list of presenters for Friday, this one will be no different.

Some details:

The first Pecha Kucha Night in Manila will be held on 13 June, from 8:20 to 11:00 pm, at the Mag:Net Café Fort Bonifacio High Street. Presenters for this night include painter and production designer Leo Abaya, sculptor Leeroy New, graphic design duo Inksurge, graffiti artists from Pilipinas Street Plan, BBDO-GO Head of Art Joni Caparas, commercial and travel photographer Nicky Sering, contemporary dancer Donna Miranda, student and cosplayer Jinny Joson, and Cebu-based design team Grafik Salad, among many other interesting speakers. (Visit http://www.pechakuchamanila.com for the complete line-up.)

For some reason the 126 cities that are now hosting Pecha Kucha have all chosen to adopt the same peculiar name as well as the standard 20×20 rule, which has in effect created an inadvertently branded social activity: now if it’s called “Pecha Kucha”, you know that quality creatives will be coming for it. Pecha Kucha has become a convenient signpost for “top designer/artist expo.”
