The Band in the Bubble

Living, eating and sleeping in a plastic bubble tends to say that you have a communicable disease. But add 24 web-cameras that are on 24/7, an upcoming band called Cartel, have them record an album and invite guest-stars like Wyclef Jean and the Knicks City Dancers over for conversation and improptu performances, it could make for interesting programming. Or not.
Cartel will enter the bubble during a live MTV broadcast on May 24 and stay there with no escape until the bubble “bursts” on June 12.While the band is in the bubble, the drama and excitement of Cartel’s recording process can be viewed in-person, on-air and online. Dr Pepper Band in a Bubble Web cams will stream live on www.drpepperbubble.com and the event will air as a music special with four 30-minute episodes on MTV, which will also be available on-demand atMTV.com.
CMJ.com has an interesting angle on the event, writing of the happenings outside the bubble (which is located on Manhattan’s West Side)– like bike heists, and interviews with people hoping to audition for musical guest roles on the upcoming album.
Dr. Pepper, MTV and Cartel are sponsoring the 20-day live-in, running through June 12th.
