Time is Luxury: Slowing Down in an ADD World

by Alex Morrison

Adjh_2Renowned culture and fashion columnist Jefferson Hack thinks the world may be moving a little too fast.

In a recent article for The Telegraph he laments his life of constant activity and the incessant hustle and bustle of urban existence, reminding us that the taking of time off for one’s own personal relaxation is the ultimate luxury in today’s plugged-in and hyperactive world.

Whether this means slipping away for an afternoon at the spa, getting on a train and leaving the city for the weekend, or just appreciating the beautiful things around you––even if only for a moment––the verdict is clear: time is luxury and personal rejuvenation can be more worthwhile and rewarding than any social event.

As one of his interviewees remarks:

It’s about having the time to appreciate the beautiful things in life, whether they be materialist or soulful. A beautiful product to me is something where you feel like someone has put their heart into it and there is a real point of view with it.

Luxury is also a day spent to yourself. None of us will ever have the time to do everything we want. I guess that time is what real luxury is.
