Denmark style is on the rise; one of the innovators, undoubtedly, pushing street fashion forward is Woodwood. Since early ‘06, the brand has been shaking print paradigms to the core. The all-over print (especially the illustration motif) has been mimicked by jealous brands worldwide. If you’re in Berlin, drop by the store and check out some of the latest offerings.

Co-founder Karl-Oskar Olsen took some time to share his thoughts:

PSFK: Why did you start designing?

Karl-Oskar Olsen: I don’t know, it was just meant to be I guess.

How did you get involved with Capsule?

I had been looking to find the right place to show in New York for some years, and finally (capsule) came up, it was natural to go there.

What’s the inspiration/idea/theme behind this season?

The collection is called “Wild Beast.” It has references to urban safari.

What would you be doing if you weren’t designing?

I don’t know, maybe just paint a lot of graffiti?

What do you usually turn to for inspiration?

I like to look at innovative contemporary art, as well as listen to music or just travel to other urban or f*cked up neighbourhoods.

What other designers/artists (of any kind) do you admire and why?

I like Kim Jones, Bernhard Willhelm, Martin Margiela and Stella Mccartney. They are all very strong designers who set new standards each season.

What film/television has been inspiring you lately?

I saw a documentary film on Swedish television about the grime scene in East London, magnificent.

How does music influence your design process?

The energy and attitude is important. I like to listen to tunes by musicians who believe they are the best in the world even if they are not, like Liam Gallagher, he’s totally out of tune, but he thinks he’s the king, and thats all I need.

What kind of music would you say “fits” your brand, if any?

The Streets, Dizzie Rascal, Oasis, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Daft Punk and Air.

What are you listening to at the moment?

I’ve been listening a lot to the Wu-Tang lately, I love those guys, but I always listen a lot to the roses, Ian Brown is my muse.

Where’s the most exciting music coming from right now and why?

I don’t know, I’m f*cking conservative when it comes to all that.

What was the last show you went to?

I saw Justin Timberlake, great show.

If you could go back in time five years and give yourself some advice, what would it be?

Maybe I shouldn’t have done that last one…
