Hip Hop Chess
PSFK attended the YPulse Mashup this week, where we sat in on a talk on marketing with Mixtapes. Takeaway: Get a DJ with street cred and hope you don’t get busted.
Moderator Adisa Banjoko, a pioneer in hip-hop journalism, mentioned a group called the Hip Hop Chess Federation which piqued our interest, so we did some digging. It’s a non-profit that brings in mentors to train urban youth in the arts of hiphop, martial arts, and chess (and for those who think the latter is an anomaly, go to Washington Square Park). From their MySpace profile:
About me:
The Hip-Hop Chess Federation was founded by Adisa Banjoko aka “The Bishop” and Leo Libiran to elevate the minds of American youth. We use Hip-Hop, chess and martial arts to teach the power of art, self mastery and strategy.
Who I’d like to meet:
Anyone who loves Hip Hop, chess, nonviolence, spiritual, economic and educational success and self mastery. We dont care about your faith, race or landbase. Come kick it! Dont forget to be down for your crown and grab an official HHCF shirt while we still have them! They are black shirts with a white HHCF logo. The money goes to rent spots to hold events, fly your favorite rappers out and buy books for kids. From the root to the fruit- we manifest it with help from people like you. We have them in XL only for $19.99! And you cant beat that with a bat.
Check it out, they even have a voki.
