This weekend, Londoners will witness the world’s fastest pilots racing at speeds approaching 400kph and withstanding forces reaching 10G as part of The Red Bull Air Race World Series.

Twelve pilots from around the world, including Paul Bonhomme from the U.K. and Mike Mangold from the U.S., are competing in the race which includes air-filled pylons hovering over the River Thames. The top two winners of the qualifying race on Saturday will advance to the final match-up on Sunday.

This cross between “downhill skiing and car racing,” as Bonhomme described it, can be viewed from the thousands of seats set up in front of the O2 (Millenium Dome) in the Greenwich area.
