Travel is good to help you understand impact of the simplest of changes. Matthias pointed out this store in Berlin as we walked the streets last night. These late night convenience stores like this one have only been around for about a year - before that German stores had to close early and speciality retailers like video-rental shops had to apply for a license to stay open late. Consider the impact on lifestyle now that you can buy dinner any time you want from places like the Fresh N Friends Foodstore.

    Wonder what it’ll do to the group late-night dinners I remember from a visit 7 years ago?

    Because everything shut so early, the artists & writers & entrepreneurs in the loose gang I was staying with organized each day’s evening meal via mobile (basically who was cooking) and loads of people would show up with booze and eat & chat til the wee hours.

    Now that ready-to-go food is available at 10 pm, I wonder if even the artists of Berlin stay at home alone, online, most evenings …?
