Club Re-Entry By Fingerpint

kokoLondonist points us to news that the Koko club in London is to offer a new system that allows smokers to pop outside for a seven minute (maximum) cigarette break and then get back in via fingerprint. Londonist comments:

Whilst applauding the establishment’s creative thinking around accommodating the smoking clientele we can’t help feeling that this may be unnecessarily draconian. Have the staff been watching too much CSI?

  1. How long do they keep the data, and who has access to it?

Do they wipe the drives after closing, or is it all archived somewhere in case the Metropolitan Police should want to match one of their spycam face shots to an actual human?

I’m always amused when I have to give a driver’s license that’s scanned to get into a midtown Manhattan office building. Asking the (sometimes minimum-wage outsourced, sometimes unionized) reception worker how long the data is held produces answers from “a week” to “a year”–though it’s mostly “I don’t know.”
