M&S: Carbon Offsetting Is A Last Resort

by Piers Fawkes

We always love the eco-consciousness that Marks & Spencer is wearing on its sleeve right now. This board we spotted at the Oxford Street store talks about Plan A - because “there is no Plan B.”

The first board says Plan A. Five years. Five Commitments, One World, 100 Things To Change. The 5 commitments are Climate Change, Waste, Sustainable Raw Materials, Fair Partner and Health. The second board says:

“We’ll aim to make our Uk and Irish operations carbon neutral within 5 years. We’ll maximise our use of renewable energy and only use offsetting as a last resort. And, we’ll be helping our customers and suppliers to cut their carbon emissions too”
