Wouldn’t it be great if how much you sincerely liked a band was directly related to how successful that band became? Slice the Pie is trying to make that idea a reality. This is how it works: bands create profiles. Fans listen to them and write reviews. The highest rated bands move on. Music fans vote for and finance the bands they like by buying “backstage passes,” which give them exclusive access to the artist, participation in the recording process, a free copy of the album and exclusive rights to buy Contracts in the artist at a discount. If the band becomes successful, the fans get a “slice of the pie” too.
Essentially, Slice the Pie is a user-generated record label. It allows artists to get their music out while empowering fans with the opportunity to become truly (financially) involved with the ones they support.

It’s about time, but what took so long? I just hope this doesn’t get too quickly overwhelmed by the interests of record companies hoping to dimish the influence of start-ups such as these, while at the same time co-opting these methods to bolster their own rightfully sagging profits.
