TableXchange: Dishing out for the Hottest Table
TableXchange is a new site that allows users to buy and sell their Friday and Saturday night reservations at hot restaurants in New York City and the Hamptons.
The site allows free posting of reservations for registered users, but charges a 12% commission on sold reservations. Buyers can search through the site by date, time, and restaurant, and are not charged for using the site. The selling price is set by the seller, whose identity is authenticated through authorization of his or her PayPal account and credit card information. Any user who is caught selling false reservations will automatically be kicked off the site.
Foodies and boyfriends in the doghouse are sure to appreciate TableXchange, though restaurant owners probably won’t. It’s a step up from bribing the maitre de, but we worry about the sneaky folks booking the hottest tables months in advance only to hawk them off last minute at the highest price they can.
