loc.jpgOn our recent trip to Germany, we visited with Jens Wille and Michael Pletziger, Managing Directors at Ubilabs, a location-based media development company based in Berlin and Hamburg. Ubilabs provides tools and applications for location based services including Polaire, a software package that helps application developers geocode their information for the web and mobileweb, and the Tour de France Livetracker, a program that geomapped cyclists during the Tour de France while also displaying information on their heart rate, speed, and power at those exact locations.

Their largest project is Loc.alize.us, a Flickr GoogleMaps mashup that lets you explore the world through pictures. On the site, users can click anywhere on the map and a collection of photos taken at that location are returned with a description of the image, who took it, its tags, and the exact GPS coordinates of the spot. Ubilabs hopes to provide a richer experience with Loc.alize.us and its other location-based media, offering dynamic information about where you are and catered to what you’re interested in, or what your friends suggest for you.
