Creating A Brand Ecosystem: Joost Opens API

by Adrian Lai

Joost Widget Manager

Pondering how Facebook has so quickly become everyone’s favorite social network after opening up its API, we wondered whether it would inspire other sites to do the same.

News comes to us from the NewTeeVee blog that Joost, the original P2P Web TV application has opened its API for outside developers to create 3rd party widgets for its platform. One reader commented: “a widget with a scheduler combined with shared bookmarks and a RSS feed could turn every Joost user in to a TV network programmer.”

On the Hyperempowered blog where we first hear the word, Mark Schiller (CEO of Electric Artists) says, “The companies that are succeeding today are those that are open and allow other companies to be born, and to succeed as well, off their backs.” An interesting thought that relates to every successful web2.0 company today.
