Lowering The Alcohol In Wines

Lowering The Alcohol In Wines

By Piers Fawkes on September 3, 2007

We’ve already noticed the introduction of lower-alcohol beers in UK pubs (maybe a way the drinks industry is trying to combat the trend away from the lunchtime tipple), and now we see the introduction of the lower-alcohol wine. Urban Junkies alerts us that Waitrose and Sainsbury are launching new wines to cater for the lighter end of the market. UJ says:

It’s just too difficult to cope in London without a few. We can’t imagine enjoying London without the hazy buzz of a half bottle of wine. And certainly a lot less fun.

But it would be good to cut down, which is why we’re all about the new low alcohol wines hitting the market. Both Waitrose and Sainsbury are launching a selection of low alcohol wine, meaning that you can still sink your dinner party average of two bottles without, I don’t know, snogging the host and then taking a nap in the loo.

The Arione Moscato Spumante Italian Sparkling Wine pictured only has 6.5% alcohol by volume.
