Sustainable Food Kiosk

By Jeff Squires on September 5, 2007

A new food cart called Picnick located in New York’s Battery Park is serving up a bevy of holistically sustainable sandwiches and salads. Almost all of the ingredients are sourced from small farms or local business, and any global vendors must meet Fair Trade quotas or adhere to a socially conscious philanthropy. To further the food stands commitment to supporting their local environment, a certain percentage of their profits are going back to the Battery Conservancy Gardens that surround their stand.

In an effort to reduce waste, all cups, cutlery, containers, and labels are biocompostable and biodegradable. Plus, for two dollars more, you can even have your food packed in natural-wood picnick basket; continue to re-use the basket and save two bucks on future meals.

In the future, they also plan on hosting community events that support socially and eco-minded initiatives.
