The Times They Are A-Changin’: Dylan Meets Facebook

by Christine Huang

dylan.jpgTechlightenment recently released what TechCrunch calls “quite possibly the coolest Facebook application to date”: a 20-second customizable clip from Bob Dylan’s music video for “Subterranean Homesick Blues” - an interactive bulletin board and marketing campaign in one. The application allows users to enter ten lines of short text which appear on the poster boards Dylan flips through (in lieu of lyrics from the song - as is featured in the actual video). Once a user adds the application and completes his personalized text, the video is embedded directly into his profile page. SonyBMG allowed the creators of the application to use the video segment as part of their push to promote their upcoming release of “Dylan: His Greatest Songs” out October 1. (Non-Facebookers can also share free, personalized messages from Freewheelin’ Bob via DylanMessaging.com.)
