Scanner media is slowly making its way into Manila courtesy of a company called TMS. Many Filipinos don’t have access to the internet at home but most do own a cellphone. The software that converts a cell phone camera into a code scanner is downloaded to the phone from the TMS website. Local magazines have started adopting it as a way for potential news stand readers to preview existing content as well as view bonus content (supported by advertising of course) without having to hang out and be evil-eyed by the shop keeper all day.

Nike also has a new TMS-based campaign featuring NBA all-stars:

Nike Asia launches in Phil., the first “ Mobile 2.0” Ads campaign in ASIA using TMS, the suite of Internet Mobile Services. For the first step of this campaign, 4 NBA stars (Lebron James, Kidd, Pierce, Soudemare) are associated to a TMS barcodes linked to mobile goods to download.
