chuck-anderson.pngChuck Anderson is a 22-year-old artist from Illinois who has quickly made a name for himself with his color-bursting photography, illustrations, and designs. His distinctive work has appeared in campaigns for Absolut, Reebok, and Puma among others, as well as on apparel, album art and magazines. Anderson took some time to talk to PSFK about his work, his take on the art world today, and who he’s watching now.

What are you doing right now? Any new projects?

Right now at this very moment I’m sifting through my inbox and trying to get back to all my emails, which sometimes seems like a job in itself. As for new projects, I’m working on new pieces for a gallery show I’m doing at the Threadless store in Chicago in November. I’m also working on some things for Ministry of Sound and Fuji Cameras. What’s keeping me most busy these days, however, is my online store. I handle and pack all orders on my own and its a lot of work. It’s rewarding but its just a lot of work!

What critical cultural shifts will impact in art in the next 12 months?

Well, the world over is going to be affected when America elects a new president. I think it’s safe to say that just about everyone is eagerly awaiting a change. If you’re in the US, you can feel the separation between the people and the government. It’s just become hard to feel its relevance right now, which is a sad thing. So I think that is going to impact everyone, artists especially, because so many artists focus on political issues and are impacted by the general mood of their country. I don’t usually get political but that’s my honest, first-thing-to-mind answer. Hopefully its a positive, forward-thinking, and optimistic impact.

What/who are a few of the artists and creatives whos work is turning you on right now?

Josh Keyes. This guy is just incredible, I love his work. Jen Stark, Stanley Donwood, John Dyer Baizley, and Jim Phillips are some of my current favorites.

Both Anderson’s personal and commercial work can be seen (and purchased) at No Pattern.

Thanks, Chuck!
