Current TV Gets Into The Digg Space
It’s an interesting move: Current TV have set up a platform that allows users to contribute and vote on news. More interesting because AOL tried this with Netscape and more-or-less failed (then changed its name quietly). Reuters says:
“For years, the attempt to unite television and the Internet has basically been one of duplication of the content on another medium,” said Current Chief Executive Joel Hyatt, a successful entrepreneur who co-founded the company with Gore.
In early tests, the company has encouraged users to create postings on topics, then upload photos, animation, embedded YouTube videos, cartoons, text comments and Webcam responses.
We’ve written before that there’s something unique about the Digg audience – their lesser real-life social skills and circle have a driving impact on their virtual ones. Would a mainstream audience with greater real-world social skills really be up for the same sort of cult-ish contribution?
