ChicksDigGames.com: For Girl Gamers

by Christine Huang

gamers3.pngChicksDigGames is a site devoted to the female gamer community, a segment largely ignored by the gaming industry. As pointed out by one of the site’s founder, Sarah Schutz, most popular websites dedicated to the recreation are male-driven/centric, including “Babes” sections, referencing the gamer as “he” and assuming an almost entirely male base. Schutz and the other creators behind CDG decided there needed to be a space on the web where women gamers could feel like part of a community and share their perspective on the industry. As stated in their manifesto:

Most women gaming sites do the same thing that many of the mainstream sites do by fitting women into a very small category of gamers, limiting their understanding of what women play and how they play. CDG is a place where women and men gamers alike can come as they are to share a unique perspective on games. We hope to not only bring women gamers together, but introduce the industry to what women gamers really want.

The site includes sections for non-gamers, game reviews, forums and downloads, and an online shop is on its way.
