Google is planning a partnership today with Gilbarco Veeder-Root to include Google’s mapping service on 3,500 Internet enabled gasoline pumps across the US. The maps will accessibl via each gas pump’s small screen giving motorists the ability to scroll through local landmarks, hotels, restaurants, and hospitals. The pump will also be able to print directions.

  1. Now THIS is truly useful. It’s that transfer-to-paper part that’s the dealbreaker in so many mapping services. Some of the early rental-car systems in the rental offices were *horrible*, although satnav systems in rentals have mostly dealt with that (for many extra $$$ of course).

But wouldn’t the next step be for the gas pump to beam the directions to the in-car satnav?
