Hermès Collaborates On A Helicopter

By Dave Pinter on November 27, 2007

If you spent any amount of time on the congested highways this past holiday weekend, you’ve probably vowed to be smarter about travel next year. You’ll probably want to have a look at the soon to be released new special Hermès edition EC 135 from Eurocopter.

The unusual paring came about after the companies crossed paths at an aviation convention in Geneva in 2006. The partnership grew out of six months of discussions and a mutual apprenticeship. Hermès looked to bring it’s vision of travel to the helicopter through unique comfort and aesthetics.

Hermès proposed a new concept landing gear that makes it easier to get in and out. The also provided creative direction on the exterior paint scheme.

The cabin was completely redesigned to maximise the available space. Surfaces from floor to ceiling were covered in ‘Toile H’, one of Hermès’s signature fabrics used to manufacture the firm’s travel ware. Seats are handcrafted and upholstered in calf leather, and optimized to soften ambient noise and vibration. Storage was seamlessly integrated to give the interior a clean look.
