House of Diehl Style Wars

By Orli Sharaby on November 5, 2007

It’s a jungle out there in the fashion world these days, and to survive you’ve got to arm yourself with ingenuity, wit, and a great pair of shears. Free-for-all fashion battles are something of a cultural phenomenon at the moment, as we reported a couple weeks ago. Now PSFK friend House of Diehl arrives with the latest installment of its long-running Style Wars series. The House of Diehl is well known for being scrappy and spontaneous – two qualities that do much to help put the label at the cutting edge of modern fashion. Style Wars, already six years running, may have even sparked the current live-action fast-fashion trend. From their press release:

Inspired by MC battling and haute couture, Style Wars presents 8 contestants in each city who will cut, tape, burn and drape to create new fashion items from vintage garments and unexpected materials, while their fans in the audience shoot, model, and cheer them on. It’s WWD meets the WWF, Project Runway meets Iron Chef, staged to the pulsing beat of today’s hottest DJs.

Round 1 of the event took place in New York October 13, Round 2 this past weekend in San Francisco. But you can still catch Style Wars in the coming weeks as it travels next to Miami (Nov. 10), Chicago, and Los Angeles.
