With concern for the environment and a growing anti-consumerist culture fueling the DIY trend, we find Threadbanger, an online network for people who want to create their own fashion. With well-produced videos (these are not YouTube quality, people), detailed tutorials, a blog, and of course a social component, Threadbanger aims to bring DIY fashion all the way down the long tail of the internet and onto the desktops of socially-conscious fashion types the world over. According to their About section:
The hippest fashion trend today is not in New York, Paris, or Milan. And you won’t find it strutting down any runway. It’s in your closet, your attic, and the Thrift Shop down the street. Threadbanger brings you into the homes and hearts and souls of people like you who just can’t hack the rack. These threadheads make their own clothes, their own fashion statements. And Threadbanger shows you their wears. Threadbanger empowers you with the insider’s view—the true how-to. Don’t throw that old kahki shirt into some landfill. Refashionize it. We’ll show you how.
Rob and Corrine are the public faces of Threadbanger, but behind the site lies Next New Networks, an internet start-up run by former execs from MTV and Nickelodeon. Next New Networks also produces several other niche video sites in a similar vein as Threadbanger, including sites focused on comics, car racing, and cartoons. According to a March article (OK, we’re a little late on this) in the New York Times:
Next New Networks plans to blend elements of old and new media into a type of hybrid entertainment that is different from traditional television and user-generated sites like YouTube. Its various Web properties will revolve around professionally produced videos of three to eight minutes, which it plans to pitch to sponsors as safe and predictable places to advertise online.

Orli,
Great post. I’m so happy you streamed this video in articular because it highlights my favorite young designer, Rebecca Turbow. You’ve probably seen me sporting a white, hooded and belted jacket made by her.
Thread Banger is an awesome site. It’s good for you that you’re spreading the word!
Cheers!
