Video Game Orchestra

by Jeff Squires

video-game-orchestra.pngCombining video games with classical music, Video Games Live is an immersive concert series put on by the gaming industry to celebrate and support the culture that has evolved around gaming. Touring the globe, the event features music from over fifty games performed by top orchestras and choirs with synchronized lighting, video projections, electronic percussionists and interactive audience participation. From Indianapolis to Rio de Janeiro, shows are selling out.

Despite the event’s focus on music, the concert functions a bit more like a convention, with special events surrounding the actual performance. Guests can arrive early and take part in interactive game demos, costume contests, game competitions, and shmooze with some of the industries top game designers. A few lucky audience members even get to play a game live on stage while the orchestra plays!

The music samplings cover everything from classic arcade games like Pong and Tetris to modern classics from Halo and Guitar Hero.
