First, about five years ago, tween girls started dressing way beyond their years, in mini skirts and thousand-dollar handbags. Now it seems adults are trying to turn the clock in the other direction and capture the spirit of being thirteen again. Last week Macy’s unveiled the new Patricia Field “Barbie Luxe” collection, in all its hot pink glory. And a few weeks ago we reported that Russian boutique Kira Plastinina plans to open ten stores in LA and NY in the first six months of 2008, giving the US market a not-so-subtle jolt its own Barbie-esque aesthetic.
We have to admit feeling a little assaulted by cheap-looking fabrics and blinding shades of pink. For a closer look at Patricia Field’s “Barbie Luxe,” check out the Paper Mag video of the collection’s launch.
