The newest club on the London scene, Lot 55 is a 500 capacity dance club described as ‘a complete rebellion against the under designed nightspots which offer the same products in similarly designed minimalist spaces to Londoners, catering only for the very rich and tastelessly celebrating their wealth,’- a statement it certainly lives up to. Based in an old underground car-park on New Oxford St, the space is vibrantly designed to look like a street from a movie set with store facades along both sides covering every era and genre, each of which has a door leading to a booth, bar, or even private room with ‘fully functional bath’!
Ironically coming from the same people as British Colonial style posh private members club Hedges and Butler (probably the only club with a Royal Warrant- well the name has one at least), the club shows off founder Youcef Aden’s background in Hollywood set-design with what can only be described as a feast for – or assault on- the eyes, depending on your preference. Although large dance clubs with ‘private rooms’ are nothing new, it’s been a while since a superclub has opened it’s doors in the members-only ultra-exclusive scene that has been boring most Londoners to death, and Lot 55 looks like a welcome change.

Went to the Opening last night and it was such a load of crap. Completely over-hyped; totally pretentious; absolute double-standards of everything they aspire to be.
For a much better night, go to the real deals in E. London, – this is just a Westend wannabe: a rip-off of those places but lacking the heart and soul. It’s trying to being the edge and rawness of the underground originals to the masses and it doesn’t work. A good idea, – both the decor and the philosophy, – but badly executed. There are thousands of better, far cooler places to go, I promise….
