Microfinancing With QR-code

Current TV has a great pod showing how cell phones that read QR-code are modernizing microfinancing institutions in India and making it possible for them quantify their credit and help put them on the same level as larger banks.

  1. Hey PSFK peoples! This is Will from Propadata Films (and the creator of this pod)

Thanks so much for posting my work! When Current approached me to create this short documentary I was thrilled to have the opportunity to learn more about the microfinance movement.

I’d love to turn my camera on the topic again someday, so if there are any people/organizations out there willing to commission I’m ready to keep filming!

Glad you liked the pod- I’ve done a number of other pieces for Current that you can check out alongside my own company’s growing list of original content at http://www.PropadataFilms.com

    take it easy!

  2. awesome

you might clarify — especially in the headline — that it’s not Semacode, which is a proprietary format (it’s a bit like saying you TiVo’d something on your Time Warner DVR).

Most of the world knows it as QR-code or DataMatrix, but in fact the codes you see in the report look to be their own, I’ve never seen them before. There are many others too, from ColorZip in Korea, to Scanbuy’s stuff here in the US, etc. Pluses and minuses to each of them.

Overall, excellent report on a brilliant use of the technology. The decision to make the UI cues audio-based is an especially brilliant move.
