Olympic-Sized Security Measures

S3Slashdot points us to IBM’s newly developed threat-detection system that will be operational during the 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing. Called the Smart Surveillance System, the technology utilizes an existing camera network and installed video analytics and database managing that provide “real-time alert, event search and event statistics services”. Basically, the system summarizes suspicious patterns that would-be aggressors may make.

If all goes as planned, lower Manhattan could get one in the near future.
