A city panel in South Los Angeles is taking action to fight the epidemic of obesity by moving to eliminate a leading cause. On Tuesday, the council’s Planning and Land Use Committee approved a proposal to ban fast food restaurants from the area. The bill will proceed to be considered by the full city council. There is of course controversy surrounding the proposal because it specifies ‘quick service’ as the target for the ban and not food types based on health criteria.
If this ban goes through, might it have the same ripple effect as the smoking ban or the transfat ban?

wow, this is pretty sick. what happened to people being responsible for themselves? the food nazis are out of control. people are such idiots when it comes to their judgment of fast food. sure, most of it’s not very good for you, but that’s also the case with a lot of so called ‘nice’ restaurants that load up their food with fat, oil, salt and sugar. you ever wonder why a meal tastes so fantastic at a 4 star restaurant? it’s because of all of the delicious butter they cook with.
this ordinance is ridiculous and incredibly simple minded.
